1. Who we are and what this covers
Takumi Tech Ltd is responsible for the personal information it handles in connection with this website, Inkling (灵感日记), and enquiries sent to us. Our website is www.takumi.pub. Contact us at carey@takumi.pub.
This policy distinguishes data managed on your device or through your Apple account from information you choose to send directly to us.
The Focus and optional media-sync descriptions below concern version 1.1, prepared for App Store review. An earlier journal-only version is currently available from Apple.
2. Journal storage and iCloud sync
Journal data, including titles, body text, dates, tags, favorites, and locations, is stored on your device using Apple SwiftData. iCloud sync requires an active premium trial or lifetime unlock and is off by default. When you explicitly enable sync, journal text and related metadata sync through a private Apple CloudKit database across devices using the same Apple account.
The private database is controlled through your Apple account. Takumi Tech Ltd does not operate a journal collection server, receive your Apple account password, or access your private journal through a developer server.
Media sync is optional and off by default. If you enable it in Inkling’s iCloud Sync settings, photos, audio recordings, videos, and document files attached to saved journal entries are copied to your iCloud Drive and can be downloaded by your other devices using the same Apple account with media sync enabled. The app retains local cached copies for use on that device. Files belonging only to an unsaved draft are not uploaded by media sync; drafts remain on the device where you write them.
Changing the Apple account pauses media sync and requires confirmation before the current device’s saved journal media can be uploaded to the newly selected account. Existing copies in the previous account are retained. Uploads and downloads depend on Apple services, iCloud Drive availability, storage, and network conditions. Sync is not immediate or a separate versioned backup; keep independent copies of important content.
3. Optional permissions
- Location: If Record Location is enabled and you grant access, the app uses Apple Core Location to obtain your location and may send a location query to Apple’s geocoding service to obtain a place name. Coordinates and place names may be stored as journal metadata. Turn off recording in the app or revoke permission in your device’s system settings. This does not automatically remove locations already saved.
- Photos and camera: Used when you choose an image or take a picture to insert into an entry. Selected or created content is saved as an attachment.
- Microphone: Used when you choose to record audio for an entry. The recording is saved as an attachment and is eligible for iCloud Drive media sync if you save the entry and enable that setting.
- Screen Time and Focus: If you choose Focus management on a supported device, Apple requests individual authorization from the device owner or child authorization from an eligible parent or guardian. Apple provides app, category, and web-domain selections through its Screen Time frameworks. Inkling stores opaque selection tokens, rule settings, schedules, and runtime rule state on the device or in its local app group so the app and its extensions can apply your rules. Usage reports are rendered locally by the Device Activity Report extension. Focus configuration and Screen Time activity are not uploaded to a Takumi server or included in journal iCloud sync.
- Location-based Focus: If you choose a location rule and grant the required location permission, Core Location monitors that rule on the device, including background location access when required. This is separate from recording a location in a journal entry. You can manage these permissions in iOS Settings.
You may decline or revoke these permissions and continue writing text entries. Apple’s own policies apply to its services.
4. Passcodes and system authentication
Diary and management passcode verification data is stored in Apple Keychain on the device. The app keeps an indicator of whether management protection is configured, and limited authenticated control state, in its local app group for its extensions. The two passcodes must differ. The diary passcode or Face ID enters ordinary journal mode; the management passcode enters privacy mode with premium settings. Focus operations also require independent management authentication and verified premium access.
When you use Face ID or another supported system authentication method, the operating system performs the verification. The app receives the result and cannot read your face, fingerprint, or other biometric templates. We cannot recover either passcode or bypass authentication.
Keep independent copies of important entries and attachment files. No internet service or device storage can be guaranteed against all loss, interruption, or unauthorized access.
5. Trial and in-app purchases
The optional 7-day trial of Focus mode and iCloud sync begins when you choose Start Free Trial in the app and Apple confirms the free trial transaction. Inkling stores trial dates and status on your device and uses verified Apple transactions to establish the original trial period. Restoring the trial does not restart or extend it. The app checks verified Apple purchase transactions and the resulting entitlement to determine whether the lifetime unlock is available.
Apple processes in-app purchases, payment details, receipts, and refunds under its own terms and privacy policies. Takumi Tech Ltd does not receive your payment card information or Apple account password. Purchase restoration uses Apple’s purchase records for the relevant Apple account. The app does not send your journal to a developer server to process a purchase.
6. Advertising, tracking, and accounts
Inkling has no advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell journal data. You do not need a Takumi account to use the journal, and the app does not provide a social publishing service.
Inkling is a general-purpose journal and is not specifically directed to children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to our support address, contact us so that we can review the request.
7. Website visits and correspondence
This is a static information website. It has no account login, marketing cookies, advertising, analytics scripts, or external font requests. Takumi Tech Ltd and our hosting or network providers may process the technical information needed to deliver and secure this website, such as IP addresses, request details, and server logs where logging is enabled.
If you email us for product support, a business enquiry, or a privacy request, we receive your email address and the information or attachments you choose to send. We use that information to reply, understand the request, perform an agreed engagement, and meet applicable legal obligations. Email is transmitted and stored by the providers used by you and us. Please share only what is necessary and avoid journal passcodes, Apple account credentials, payment card details, and unnecessary private entries.
We do not use your support or business correspondence for unrelated advertising. We restrict access as appropriate to the request and use service providers only as needed to operate the website and communications, or as required by law.
8. Retention, deletion, and your choices
You control entries in the app: edit them, move them to trash, restore them, or permanently delete them. Entries in trash remain until permanently deleted; permanent deletion cannot be undone from the app’s trash. Drafts and attachments can also be removed.
Turning off media sync preserves local files and existing iCloud Drive copies. Deleting an entry, permanently deleting it from the app’s trash, or cleaning up an unreferenced local attachment does not automatically delete the corresponding media copy in iCloud Drive. This avoids removing a file that another device or a draft may still need. Use Apple’s iCloud storage controls to manage cloud copies, and keep independent copies of anything important.
Changes to journal text and metadata on other devices, and copies in system backups, depend on Apple’s sync progress and your device, iCloud, and backup settings. Deletion does not guarantee that every copy disappears immediately. Takumi Tech Ltd cannot manage your private CloudKit records or iCloud Drive files for you.
We retain support and business correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to address the request, perform the relevant engagement, keep necessary records, and comply with applicable law. When no longer needed, we delete it or take another appropriate lawful step.
9. Privacy requests and service providers
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an explanation of the information we handle, and to object or withdraw consent where applicable. Email carey@takumi.pub to make a request. We may need to verify your identity and the scope of the request. You may also contact the appropriate data protection authority.
Information you send by email or that is processed by hosting providers may be handled in countries where those providers operate. Applicable law and any required safeguards govern that processing. This does not give us access to your private journal, Apple CloudKit database, or iCloud Drive media.
10. Apple services, updates, and contact
Apple provides its account, iCloud, location, authentication, and purchase services under its own terms. See the Apple Privacy Policy and Apple Account and iCloud privacy information.
We update this policy when our data practices change and show the effective date on this page. For privacy questions, contact Takumi Tech Ltd at carey@takumi.pub.
